Just want to make sure Andrew realizes that what I said about Titanic was that people watched it over and over despite its long running time. Kind of a different point than the masterpiece conversation . Jason and Andrew, I don't agree with you at all, but it's been a good argument. I will say this though, the test for masterpiecehood isn't whether the film is being watched by film school students or jocks and mall rats. Don't let who's enjoying a movie worry you.
Also, you can eat popcorn while watching a masterpiece. Tastes the same.

Good last line :)
I think what Andrew meant by the title "popcorn films", was that they are easy to enjoy...anyone can go in, sit down, understand and enjoy the film, it's a 'popcorn film'...not that you could or could not eat popcorn with one film and not another, determined by the quality of the film...
I'm enjoying the posts on this blog by the way...
I would post along with you guys, but I think I'll just keep to the comments. For some reason I'm not good at clubs like this...book clubs or movie clubs, etc. I can never watch/read on command for some reason. Like this movie "La Haine" for instance...I really want to watch it since Torben told me that he loved it, but I still can't get around to it...and I've watched other films in the meantime...I don't know what my deal is...but, I'll definitely weigh in on the comments...and maybe sometime I'll participate in the posting...
Barrett, hilarious post.
Travis, know that you are always welcome to comment and certainly invited to post. Have Torben give you the log-in info, if you ever desire.
Jason
Thanks, Jason!
By Travis' definition of "popcorn film" I feel one could easily apply that label to the Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino masterpiece (there, I said it) Grindhouse. Well, let me tell you, I bought popcorn before going into said film and I never touched it after, oh say, ten minutes into Planet Terror. I think I would have thrown up. This Dark Knight movie sounds interesting, though. I guess I'm going to have to go see it. Hopefully it is as good as Titanic!
